Jive Software has acquired Proximal Labs, a privately held company that brings innovative ‘big data’ technology to enterprise social networks. Proximal will accelerate Jive’s efforts to use the innovations of ‘big data’ to unlock the value of the social graph in the enterprise. The acquisition is part of Jive’s mission to be at the forefront of Social Business innovation and build one of the next great enterprise software companies.

Who is Proximal Labs?
Proximal Labs is the only company providing ‘big data’ solutions for enterprise social networks. It was started by David Gutelius and Lance Riedel, who realized that there is an unanswered need in the market to create smart, adaptive applications that anticipate and target user needs and create spectacular community engagement. They combine deep domain expertise in ‘big data’, machine learning, and social analytics with experience creating products that address some of the most important challenges in large social networks.
What is ‘big data’?
‘Big data’ is a term applied to data sets whose size is beyond the ability of commonly used software tools to capture, manage and process the data within a tolerable elapsed time. Big data sizes are a constantly moving target currently ranging from a few dozen terabytes to many petabytes of data in a single data set.
