Want to win free licenses, t-shirts, cash or an iPhone, but don't know where to start?

If you need an idea for a plugin, you might want to visit the plugin wishlist on Jivespace. We have several plugin ideas from people who want a specific piece of functionality, but who do not have the expertise or spare time to write a plugin.

If you have an idea, but have never written a Clearspace plugin, our documentation page might be a good place to start. We have a Clearspace Developer kit, tutorials, documentation, Javadocs, and more to help you get started!

As always, you can also ask questions in our community to get help from your peers or the experts at Jive Software!

Jive is holding its first plugin contest. This is a nationwide contest based on the development of open source plugins for Clearspace. We are looking for plugins released under the Apache 2.0 open source license that are extremely user friendly, solve business problems, and highlight Clearspace's collaboration muscles.

What you can win:

  • Money

    • First prize wins you $5,000

    • Second place wins you $2,500

    • Third place wins you $1,500

    • Fourth and fifth place will also receive a commemorative award

  • Of course you can win cash, but better than that you can be recognized by your peers as a top-notch developer, and your plugin will be available in Jive's Developer Community (dev.jivesoftware.com) for the entire world to download and use.

  • All contestants will receive a super cool Jivespace Developer Community t-shirt.

What you get from Jive in order to create your plugin:

  • Five user license of Clearspace, available here

Important dates:

  • Contest will BEGIN on July 25, 2007 at 8:00 AM PST

  • Contest will END at October 25, 2007 at 11:59 PM PST

  • Winners will be announced by end of day on Friday, November 2, 2007

Judging Criteria:

  • Usefulness: Ideally, the plugin you develop should be good for something. The more people and organizations whom we think will find your plugin useful, the better we'll like it.

  • Completeness: Your plugin should attempt to solve a specific problem and you should solve that problem as completely as possible. Don't leave obvious holes in functionality.

  • Creativity and Elegance: thoughtful, well executed code is what we are looking for.

  • Code quality: Your code should be readable, self-evident, thoroughly commented, and easily-maintainable.

Submission Process:

  • Register for an account on Jivespace, our Developer Community, dev.jivesoftware.com

  • Add your plugin to the Plugin Subspace in our community and include the tag: Summer_2007_Plugin_Contest

  • Once your plugin is submitted to dev.jivesoftware.com, send the link and your complete contact details to Summer2007PluginContest@jivesoftware.com
