I do realize that the upgrade process from an older product such as Forums 4.x to CS 2.x can be very tedious but it is done for a reason. In order to be able to account for all possible versions in an upgrade it would take a very large amount of code and the possibilities for problems to occur would be quite high. A universal import mechanism is actually a really good idea, I will see if I can pass that along to someone. It would take some work to implement but I could see it being very useful.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that an import utility is currently planned for Clearspace 2.5. The best upgrade method is still to go from 4.2 -> 5.5, 5.5 -> 1.x, 1.x -> 2.0.x, 2.0.x -> 2.5.  Again, I realize this is quite complicated but for the time being this will produce the best results with the least amount of issues. Actually, I have an update on this situation. There should be a plugin included with 2.5.1 that will allow you to migrate from 5.5.x (latest) directly to 2.5.1. This means your upgrade path will be:

4.x -> 5.5.x -> 2.5.1.

Unfortunately, this feature didn't ship with 2.5.1 as initially expected. It appears that there is still some work being done to make it perfect but it should be out soon. I don't have a specific date for you but it should be soon. Initially it probably won't be released as a public plugin but more information should be available soon. Thanks!
