Beta Program Launched

Posted by Matt Tucker on Aug 6, 2008 10:28:34 PM

We've just launched the public beta program for the next release of Clearspace. We'd love your help in making sure the code is as polished and bug-free as possible before the general release. This release is the third beta (after two private betas) of the 2.5 series. There are two ways to get involved: first, you can

download the release and install it on your own servers. You can also visit the beta sandbox site and create an account to test out a live instance and provide feedback. We're looking forward to hearing what you think!

Looks great! Groups are great, but a bit confusing what the difference between a community and group is. As far as I can tell, I guess I would want the ability to nest one or more groups within a community.

I think the projects feature isn't something that is well fleshed out though. Projects just seem a tad bit weak on the implementation side. At least for my application, I'd have a hard time finding a use for that feature. I'm sure others will appreciate it more though.

Yes, I love the groups and the project tracking features!  Nice work!

And I have the same question as Jon, can groups (and projects) be aggregated into communities like blog are aggregated?  Or is there a way to link to these features?

Also, it appears that groups have all the same functionality as communities, is this true?  How would you compare them?

Is it possible to convert a community into a group?

(I know that may be a lot.  Thanks for the help)

I, too, would like to know if a community can be converted into a group. Thank you.

hi Chris,

can groups (and projects) be aggregated into communities like blog are aggregated?  Or is there a way to link to these features?

No, groups are standalone, they can't be aggregated into communities.  Off the top of my head the only way to link up the two would be to add an RSS Subscription widget to the homepage of the community.

Also, it appears that groups have all the same functionality as communities, is this true?  How would you compare them?

For the most part, yes, they have all the same functionality as communities. There are certain things that didn't make the 2.5.0 release (ie: moving a document out of a group) but we hope to fix those minor things in an upcoming release.

Is it possible to convert a community into a group?

At this point, no.

Cheers,

AJ

AJ, what are some other things that didn't make the 2.5.0 release? What about scheduled chats?

Aug 22, 2008 12:02 AM Aaron Johnson Aaron Johnson    says in response to Rob Alexander:

hey Rob,

Scheduled chats did not make it into 2.5.0.  I wasn't privy to the detailed discussions about that specific feature.  Were there other things that were high on your list?
