Force tagging?

Is there any way to force tagging? I don''t want to allow anyone to publish without tagging the document, blog, or discussion.

Great feature idea (and funny because in our alpha releases we did force tagging on everything). This will definitely make it into the next release as an option that you can specify in the Admin Console.

Would it be possible to force a tag selection from an admin-configured list? I''d like to ensure that each document/forum entry (at least) contains a tag identifying the product the document is referencing.

For example...we have three products A,B,C. Upon document creation a user would have to tag the document with one or more of the products (A,B, or C). I could envision a drop down or radio buttons above the current free text tag field which would allow a user to select one or more of the product identifying tags.

This would be very valuable as our spaces would contain information spanning several products. The ability for our sales teams to quickly filter to a desired product would be extremely valuable.

Forcing a tag selection from a admin-configured list starts to sound a little bit like a category, which we''re talking about adding into the product back and forth about internally. Expect to see something that addresses this need after the 1.1.0 release.

In the meantime, you could easily customize your editor templates (doc-create.ftl, postform.ftl and create-post.ftl) to force the user to select from a list of tags that you specify. If I was doing this, I think I''d add a property to the space (which you can do through the admin console) called ''tags'' whose value was the comma delimited list of tags that I wanted to prompt the user to choose from. Then I''d add some code in the editor templates mentioned above that retrieved the tags property (something like community.getProperty("tags")) and added a multi-select form element above or in the current tags portlet.

The next Online Community Roundtable will be held Thursday, October 18th in SF. Autodesk will host.

The event is free, and you are invited! PLEASE RSVP TO bjohnston@forumone.com by Monday, October 15.

The Roundtables have been a regular, but intentionally "under the radar" gathering since July of 2005. The intention of the events is to provide an open and safe environment for community practitioners to share experiences and best practices. It's also an excellent excuse to have a cocktail and meet other interesting people in the space.

No sponsorships. Host organization provides space, food and beverages
No pitches. Presentations should be about sharing experiences, having a discussion about a problem or issue you are facing, or reviewing a project or site you are working on.
The guest list is up to Bill & George.
Bill and/or George sets final agenda based on topic appropriateness and time available
"Soft" NDA: Blogging event is ok, unless presenter asks you not to.

Format:

5:30 - 6:30 Networking hour.

Drinks and food will be available.

6:30 - 8:30

Presentations.

After the networking hour, we'll share thoughts on community. We request that you bring a 1-2 slide deck to talk to. Topics can range from:

A report back from a conference
A new community that you have recently launched
A feature that you are developing, or are interested in discussing
Challenges that you are facing in developing, growing or managing your community
Or any other topic that you feel would be appropriate and enlightening to this audience.

We try to keep the size of the group small (about 25 people) to ensure a quality group conversation. As such, we limit invitations. Inviting extra folks is no problem (especially if they are cool), but please have them rsvp to me so that we can have an accurate final headcount.
