Just for the record, I did not have a single firefox crash since we upgraded our Jive SBS instance to 3.0.4.

However, this patch is still not applied on this Forum, still running 3.0.2 today... that got me 2 firefox crashes in the past 15 mins on 2 separate discussions.

We are a few of us using Firefox (3.0.10) on an internal SBS 3.0 site, and we all suffer from firefox crashes when loading the SBS editor from time to time. I also got the same crash when trying to respond to a jive community discussion, and now on that jboss document.

I have been trying on the above jboss document link, and indeed, it is constantly happening on that document. I have both a Mac & a Vista PC, both with Firefox 3.0.10. I have tried to disable all plugins (notably shockwave as mentioned above), all extensions on both of those systems.

=> At the end of the day, the only time I get the document editor to load without a hard crash is when I start Firefox in "Safe Mode" on the PC

=> For all the other combinations, the Bug Report is sent to Mozilla with that url about 10 times already...

I appreciate plugins/extensions could cause some of those crashes, but here it does look much more like a "basic" Firefox vs. Jive incompatibility.

The Jive editor is loading & using some serious javascript (saw the size of those on the server), that for some 'complex' documents, triggers some normally hidden Firefox problem.

At the end of the day, I have been using Firefox for 5 years or more... and, the Jive web sites are the first to crash on it so brutally. So, Jive has some part in this. And if there were a text-based wiki editor in SBS, that would provide a safe workaround (to avoid the dangerously heavy javascript around).

On the other hand, other browsers seem to support all this heavy editor javascript fine, even IE or Chrome,... so there must be some issue with Firefox => Mozilla.

It is not totally random, there's a reproducible case (jboss document) and I'm sure 100s of the error reports like mine at Mozilla. Is there some activity & collaboration between Jive & Mozilla to get this jboss document to edit without Safe mode? Any expected date?

I would be willing to bet Firebug might the culprit for that crash - try starting in safe mode or disabling the addon to see if that corrects the issue.

It's happening to other customers we have here as well - I've asked them to do the same thing.

Taking back. I've upgraded to Firefox 3.0.7, and the editor crashes again :-/ I have all plug-ins (flash, etc.) disabled.

One of the suggestions on the FF support community is to try creating a new profile:

Have you reported this problem with FF? A quick Google search shows that this add-on that seems to be causing the problems also shows up in the crash reports for other Firefox users. If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend linking the details of this case on a new or existing ticket with the Mozilla folks, as they are the ones who are the best equipped to help you get this problem resolved:
