Use this very simple widget to display the members of user groups on Community overview pages. The plugin is quite simple, and I have included the source in case you want to modify it show different user information, or extend it to add additional functionality.
After installing the plugin (which also works fine in 2.5.x) you'll now see the GroupMembershipWidget option when customizing the overview tab of a given community.
Then, simply enter your user groupID, and it will display all users in that group.
Simple, yet extremely helpful! In our organization, we set up 1-2 different groups for each of our communities, and it's always difficult knowing who are members of that community from the UI.
This widget allows community admins the ability to show other users who the members are. In very large companies, where there may be multiple teams buried in the organization with the same name...community names add little value when trying to find the group you're looking for. Very helpful to see the various team members in your organization that are involved in the community, to tie the team back to the community.
Although if there are cases where group members need to be secret, it may be helpful to only have the widget work if the person inputting the group id has to be the group admin for security purposes.
What do other users think? Would this would be another quick win by incorporating into the core product? Or does it need a bit more work?
What are the limitations of this widget? What is the maximum number of users it will show before it has a huge impact on the system? Is there any pagination for very large groups? Are there any known bugs or issues with it?
Surprisingly, something this simple, would be a huge value to our users, but I am trying to understand any risks before implementing this widget enterprise wide. Any details would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Jeremy,
Given the simple nature of this widget, it has not been tested for performance. The underlying code uses the group caches, user caches, etc so it shouldn't be too much of a performance burden. Currently no pagination and I haven't heard of any bugs with it (else they'd probably be on this page).
As you stated, it's simple and I don't see any major risks associated with this in production. That being said, it is not one of the officially supported plugins at this time.
I have tried using this in Jive SBS 3.0.1 and the widget doesn't appear in the widgets pallet.
