Are Communities Essential?

Posted by Ken Domen Sep 15, 2009

Sometimes, the best people to ask such vital questions are kids.

When it get's beyond 105 degrees in Portland,

I have to up my game a notch.  Today, I wore

my extreme halfshirt with a custom slit for maximum air flow.

Many people have asked me at one time or another,

"Why is your title Technical/Social Evangelist?"

I thought it would only be fair to answer those questions this day.

I decided to change my title to Technical/Social Evangelist

because I'm not as Technical as Derek DeMoro and I'm not as Social as Gia Lyons.

The pictures below pretty much sum up what I do.

1.  "Social Evangelizing"

T-Shirt Contest

Posted by Ken Domen Jul 16, 2009

There are few contests I enter or am allowed to enter but when my orthodontist decided to hold a "Dr. Lathrop T-shirt contest",

I asked for a child size "M".   My competition includes a super-fit triathlete, tons of teenage kids who lack

fat, and other clients who decided to get t-shirts of the correct size.  One thing I have going for me is the American Apparel

Community who encourages ultra-tight clothes, the half-shirt facebook group, and my girfriend who says I look good for being 40.

Half Shirt User Profiles

Posted by Ken Domen Jun 24, 2009

An independent study conducted by non-official Insight's contractors revealed

that most half-shirt owners are "green & yellow" by nature.

We are the middle children that lacked the hugs and attention during our formative

years.  Half-shirts help relieve some of this lost love.

Currently, an Insight User Profile plugin is being developed and will be

released in the 3rd quarter.

As BBQ season approaches, we will all be faced with a serious problem.

How do you scale grills to meet the demands of hungry half-shirted guests in an ultra-tight economy?

GaaS on the Cloud is a solution that is currently not supported by Amazon or any logical vendor that I know of.

The idea came to me during a friday nap after I consumed way too much Mongolian beef.

Ironically, Jive Express launched a day after my blog went live.

I am pretty sure the two have nothing in common.

UnEssential Plugins

Posted by Ken Domen Mar 30, 2009

If you've ever created something that you think nobody will ever use,

then you know how I feel most of the time.  The UnEssential Plugins for Jive SBS3.0

has been taking up most of my time lately and what it does is bring back the "SOCIAL"

to business.  Does that sound familiar?

Here's an excerpt from a blog I'm subscribed to:

The UnEssential Plugins will debut the following:

1.  EHarmony Plugin For Soulmates.

2.  Facebook Plugin For Addicts.

3.  Twitter Plugin For People That Need Affirmation.

4.  Gmail Plugin for Web1.0 Users.

5.  Proactiv Skin Solution Plugin for those with skin fears.

I know it's sort of ironic and scary but I decided to launch Human Fireplace 3.0

at almost the same time as Jive SBS.

Here's some of the questions the media asked me:

Media:                 Are you in a partnership with Jive?

Human Fireplace:       Not that I know of.

At least I haven't gotten anything from them.

I asked Jorge for Disneyland tickets this week and he hasn't responded at all.

I think he's Sarbanes Oxley Compliant.

Media:                 How did you skip a version and go from Human Fireplace1.0 to 3.0?

Human Fireplace:       That's a good question.

I launched Human Fireplace2.0 on Telligent and it failed.

Media:                 How many followers do you have?

Human Fireplace:       At least 10.

My Half Shirt Testimonial

"If I could take back one moment in my pair-programming life, it would be the day when I wore my Clearspace half shirt in combination with my low-cut jeans.  I showed way too much back."  @kdomen #too_much_back

We all have a story to share and this might just be the forum to do so.

My story took place when an innocent "my back hurts so I'm just going to make myself more comfortable" situation turned into a deadly nightmare.  My pair programmer at that time came back from what I would consider the world's longest break.  He returned to see more than he bargained for.  I was coding in an unorthodox fashion leaning over to finish off an amazing plugin. We spent the rest of the day discussing how I threw his groove off and how he couldn't code after that traumatic event.

I'm sure you have your stories too.  I'd like to hear them.

The Magic Quadrant

Posted by Ken Domen Feb 26, 2009

Last week, I conducted an independent Gartner-like study on leading social software vendors and

retailers and the only other competitor that came close to Jive's visionary half-shirt

was Build-A-Bear's super-mini t-shirt built for teddy bears.

"Jive has a definite competitive advantage over both Telligent and Build-A-Bear when it comes to tight t-shirts."  --   anonymous shopper at Buffalo Exchange

Jive understands that building a community not only includes good software but creating t-shirts that are both tight and short.  In my next blog, I'll be talking about how Jive can transform their licensing model.
