We require site support for China and Japan, and we also have people in Europe who will be using the site. I have two questions depending on which direction we take.
1) We have had feedback that there is some minor translation issues with the site. Can you provide some feedback on how to correct this?
2) It might also make sense to make this default to Engish (regardless of where you are in the world) and I was wondering if there was a site setting that made the site default to English and not serve up any localized wrappers.
Thanks for you help.

Could you be more specific, I'm not sure what/which issues you're referring to.

You can set Clearspace to use English as the default locale (Admin Console > System > Locale), however this doesn't necessarily enforce English as the language displayed. Here are the Rules for Determining a User's Locale / Language (2.0.5 and later), if you want to alter this behavior you would need to customize the core code.

On #1, we had someone login from Germany and they were pleased to see the interface in their language. However, it was noted that some of the translations on the interface were not quite correct. If we wanted to fix those translations, could we do that? Let me know if this helps.
On #2, thanks for your answer, but what exactly does this mean? "however this doesn't necessarily enforce English as the language displayed." If we set this up in the admin console, you are saying that it does not necessarily default to English everywhere? Or it does, but people can change their settings at the user level? I'm not quite sure I understand. If we set it at the admin level and it defaults to English and people can change it at the user level, I think that's okay.
Thank you!

Please see our documentation on this: http://www.jivesoftware.com/builds/docs/clearspace/latest/Internationalization.html (Translating the Clearspace Interface). I haven't personally done this you'll need to extract the i18n file from the jars (as described in the documentation) and find the entries you would like to modify.

Essentially there is a hierarchy for the locale. You can set the global locale, but users can set their "personal" locale and it will override the language displayed for this specific user. Hope this makes sense,
