Registration Moderation Not Working

Registration Moderation does not work when:

  • CAPTCHA is disabled
  • Registration Moderation is enabled
  • See attached screen shot (RegModNotWorking.png)
  • Behavior Description:
    • User self registers
    • User receives validation email
    • User can validate and can log in without prior moderator approval
    • User can participate and post without prior moderator approval
    • User is searchable by community without prior moderator approval
    • Moderator/Admin is notified via "Your Stuff" link being orange that a registration approval is waiting

 

Please advise.

Hey Matt,

 

Thanks, I was able to reproduce this issue. I did some digging and found this bug (CS-11676 - Registration moderation can be bypassed if email validation is turned on). This was filed as a high priority bug and has been fixed as of 2.5.9. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks Matt.

Is 2.5.9 currently available?

2.5.7 is the most current available version. 2.5.8 should be released soon (within a week or two) and then 2.5.9 should be 2-4 weeks after that. Thanks.

So conservatively we're 6 weeks out on the resolution for this bug fix? That

would place release around April 21st?

Hey Matt,

 

That's correct. It would be roughly that long depending on if there are any major roadblocks. It will probably be quicker than that. The fix for this issue doesn't appear to be extremely complex and could like be implemented as a custom war if its absolutely critical. I really reccommend staying away from thing kind of thing though. Thanks.

Hi Todd,

 

We are seeing a very similar issue in our environment (2.5.7); registration moderation and user created accounts are enabled, but email validation is *not* enabled. Users who have not been approved are enabled and can access the entire site. (I got a private message from one of them.) This is a security problem for us. Is this the same issue as the one you referenced? Is it fixed in 2.5.9?
