There's a serious problem with the "Insert" button missing from the box that's used to insert links. It appears to be a display problem, but it's not clear why some have the problem and others do not. We have seen it with IE7, FF and Chrome, and it can be on each of the three screens of the insert link dialogue box.
I use FF3 and can see the button in the case described below, but I notice that it is slightly cut off at the bottom, not displaying properly. My colleague in the UK is also using FF3, but he can't see the button at all. Here's his description:
When using the wiki editor and you want to insert a link, if you choose the "all content" tab, search for something and then check the radio button, the "insert link" link is missing so you can't complete your action.
Here are some screen shots, I not sure that the picture is very clear but you can just make out that there is no "insert link in the bottom of the dialogue box"
Here is the screen when it is first opened and you can see the link and the button.
I have tested this with and without Akamai staging environment activated -- no difference. But could there be an Akamai configuration setting that affects display? Why are we suddenly seeing this?
Hi Ted,
Do you think that this is something which may have cropped up after the upgrade to 3.0? Is it possibly related to the screen resolution of the machine? Could you check your screen resolution dimensions, and those of the UK user and post them here?
Regards,
Karl
It's a recent development, for sure, so if it's not related to Akamai then the finger points toward 3.0 upgrade a week ago. Given that it's not affecting everyone the same way, I guess it could have escaped my notice that long.
I thought of screen res, too -- made no difference on my PC. On every setting the button looked the same: partly cut off at the bottom. Both reports of this in FF came from the UK, where their monitors seem to be different. Screen resolution there is 1680x1050, which is not one of my options.
A web editor there asked if it's a CSS issue, maybe fixed fonts?
I'll test more thoroughly here on different browsers. I know I saw the issue on Chrome, but don't recall the exact case -- I assumed it was a Chrome bug at the time.
Forgot to add this from UK tester:
I just checked on IE too. The issue is still there.
Its also a problem on my Apple Mac too running firefox 3.0.10 on a 1024x768 monitor.

Thanks Ted. I think there definitely is a bug here, but I haven't been able to reproduce it here. Could you do a little more work on your end to try to isolate the exact conditions where you're seeing this? I can file the bug, but any information you can give me to bolster my case to the engineering team will help get this fixed as quickly and thoroughly as possible.
Thanks!
Here's what I have so far on my PC:
Testing in Chrome in discussion thread:
insert button is initially visible in all 3 tabs
button is not present after searching using the All Content tab
screen res: 1280x1024
no difference when switch screen res to 800x600
Testing in IE7 in discussion:
insert button is initially visible in all 3 tabs
button is not present after searching using the All Content tab
screen res: 1280x1024
no difference when switch screen res to 800x600
Again, just on my PC:
Testing in FF3 in document:
insert button is initially visible in all 3 tabs
button is still present after searching using the All Content tab, and is not cut off at all -- looks perfect
screen res: 1280x1024
no difference when switch screen res to 800x600
Testing in Chrome in document:
insert button is initially visible in all 3 tabs
button is NOT present after searching using the All Content tab
screen res: 1280x1024
no difference when switch screen res to 800x600
Testing in IE7 in document:
insert button is initially visible in all 3 tabs
button is NOT present after searching using the All Content tab
screen res: 1280x1024
no difference when switch screen res to 800x600
I suggest looking at the CSS as my web editor suggested. The clear difference between 2.5 and 3.0 is that the All Content tab of the Insert Links box contains far more checkboxes and those take up more vertical space. Likely there is something in the code that miscalculates or fails to account for that change in the vertical dimension of the display. I base that in part on the fact that I got a partially cut off button in some cases.
Hi Ted,
I found that there was a bug which had been closed out in 3.0.0 regarding this issue - CS-10729 - "Insert" Button is missing in "All content" tab of Insert link window. I went ahead and reopened that issue with a reference to this case.
Regards,
Karl
I'm seeing this issue as well. FF3 using Jive 3.0.1
Are there any updates on a bug fix for this issue?
Thanks
Anthony
Hi Anthony,
This bug was just updated yesterday. Your feedback is appreciated, though, as it will help prioritize this fix in our engineering process.
Regards,
Karl
Any progress on this? I just experienced it myself, using IE 7 on SBS 3.0.5.
FWIW I found a workaround of pressing the tab button a few times. When the focus moves to the Insert Link button, it reappears.
Hey Michael,
It appears that this issue was closed as unreproducible in 3.0.5 and above however I was able to reproduce it in both 3.0.5 as well as later versions internally. I have reopened this bug and escalated the issue to our QA team for further investigation. You can track the progress by using the right hand side of this case. Thanks.

Hi Todd,
It's back. I've got a user with this issue in both IE and Firefox. I can put you in touch with her if it would be helpful.
Hi Ted,
This is a known issue which appears to be fixed in 3.0.8 as well as 4.0.0. Thanks.
-Todd
That's why I'm telling you about it: we're running 3.0.8 and she's seeing the problem.
Can I get a screenshot of this? You mention that she can reproduce in both IE and Firefox, so I would assume that other users should be able to as well? Unless maybe the user's resolution is set to an odd value or something, a screenshot would be the most helpful thing here. Thanks.
-Todd
We've had trouble reproducing it, too. I have no idea what the determining cause is. I looked into resolution settings the last time this issue came up, and never could find anything that explained it.
That's why I offered to put you in touch with her -- perhaps you could investigate through a screen share and find what's unique about her set up.
Ah, I see the problem here. Check out the "Where to search: " select box, see how it got pushed down to the second/third line due to a location with an extremely long name (or deep in the tree)? This is causing the insert button to be pushed off the page as well. I will update the bug accordingly, adding a test case for the very wide select boxes (width should be limited on the form anyways). Thanks.
-Todd
Good eye. Makes sense that it's caused by the search itself instead of user settings -- that's why I never could reproduce it. Never used the exact same search in testing.
Yep, definitely an odd one. Our UI team definitely realizes this modal could use a redesign to allow for larger datasets and it is definitely on our roadmap. Thanks!
