Can only see attachments when editing

So far we discovered two documents in which their attachments are not visible unless you are in edit mode.

Our users mentioned that this may have occurred when attempting to replace an attachment so we are investigating the exact actions.

 

There does not seem to be anything unusual checking the jiveAttachment table in the database.

We even experimented on a test environment to see what happens if we removed the attachments through SQL.

 

Though there only has been two incidents found so far, we need to figure out a way to correct this visibility problem in case there are other documents (possibly other content types) having the same issue.

 

We are currently using Clearspace 2.5.7 updating from 1.10.x back in Mar 2009.

However, both documents were created recently in the past 30 days.

Hi Mel,

 

This appears to be a known issue that you are experiencing here (ID#: CS-9661). The problem occurs if you have attachments on a document and Save the document as a draft. It will cause the attachments to not display here but display during edit. This issue has been fully fixed as of 2.5.9. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, Todd.

 

Our next upgrade plans will most likely be a jump to SBS 3.0 but this may not occur until later this year or early next year.

 

Is there an interim fix to clean the "corrupted" document or attachments in the meantime?

Unfortunately not. You should be able to delete the entries from the jiveAttachment table to get rid of the "ghost" entires but this data is lost. These attachments cannot be recovered from the database.

Will the fix in 2.5.9 not only prevent the issue but also fix attachments display for the affected content?

Hi Mel,

 

No, if the attachments are not showing up correctly they have already been corrupted in the database and we are not checking for this. You should be able to find all of the broken attachments in jiveAttachment because they will not have a corresponding entry in jiveAttachData. Thanks.

Just to be certain, the attachments do become corrupted so they need to be removed from the database?  We cannot add the missing entries in jiveAttachData as an alternate solution?

 

Sorry, haven't had the time yet to review the jiveAttachData table's relationship with attachments.

You might be able to do this. It seems just as easy to remove the entries from the jiveAttachment table and then use the UI to add them back. Each entry in jiveAttachment should have a corresponding entry in jiveAttachData which holds the actual data of the uploaded attachment. If either one is missing it is considered orphaned data. Hi Todd.

 

Removing the entries from jiveAttachment did remove the attachments and in fact they each had a corresponding entry in jiveAttachData.

 

However, the Attachments header is still visible when viewing the document.  Is this a normal result before re-attaching the files?

Would you pelase show me a screenshot of what you are seeing here?

 

Also, it is a little odd that they had a corresponding entry in jiveAttachData. You should be able to confirm that this is the same bug by doing the following:

 

1. Create a new document with attachments and don't save as a Draft. They should work

2. Create a new document with attachments and save as draft then publish, they should be broken.

After scrubbing jiveAttachment and jiveAttachData, here is what we see now...

 

1. Indication that something is still wrong when viewing the document

2. When you edit, however, you can see we successfully removed the attachments successfully from the database via SQL

Are we suppose to clear the cache or restart the application?

You will definitely want to restart after making a database change like this. A cache clear might be enough but I would suggest a restart. Thanks.

We had to also scrub the references to the corrupted attachments from jiveAttachVersion in addtion to jiveAttachment.  After clearing the cache, the problem finally went away in our testing server.

 

We cleaned out the production database and now waiting to see if the user is able to re-attach the files succesfully.

 

Otherwise, I think we are good now with the procedure.
