Eclipse IDE Setup for plugin development

Hello everyone,

First off, I am new to Jive SBS plugin development so bare with me

I was hoping to find a step by step process on how to properly configure Eclipse so that I can modify existing plugins. I am aware of the documentation here, but I have a plugin which is currently being built by ANT and I would like to be able to take advantage of the features in Eclipse. I would mainly like to be able to see the javadoc information about each object I mouse over in the source code (the function call auto-complete is a nice feature too ). Ideally, I would like to be able to test and debug my plugin project within eclipse as well. I have a really pesky bug and would like to be able to track it through the console. I am new to plugin development though and simply building the plugin jar file and testing to see if it works isn't very helpful for debugging. If there is some existing documentation out there, I would appreciate a link (I couldn't find it using the search feature).

Thanks in advance!

Re: Eclipse IDE Setup for plugin development

We cover step-by-step Eclipse configuration in the online developer course located at http://www.jivetraining.com.  In fact, the course includes a zip file containing a pre-configured Eclipse project complete with Tomcat integration - so you basically download and unzip the zip file, run an Ant task, tweak a few vm args to your liking, and you're up and running.

Pricing options for the dev course is located at http://www.jivetraining.com/pricing, and feel free to contact me directly to discuss in more detail or to schedule an onsite instructor-led training session.
