How are other companies handling multi-language on their clearspace community sites?

A customer of mine is getting feedback in regards to their localized conversations.

I’m getting a lot of questions from China and Japan about having Japanese and Chinese characters in our jivespace instance. Our English users are saying they don’t want to see a mixed experience (ex: English/Japanese/Chinese) on the same page. How are other companies handling multi-language on their clearspace community sites. Any documents or presentations on this subject would be great.

Anyone care to share how their company is dealing with a global community?

Great question. We are running into the same situation.  We don't want a seperate instance for every language and we want it to work much like our website works where you can select a language/locale and get the page properly skinned with the right communities.

Currently we have a Japanese Community and occassionally we get some Japanese content on our main community portal. So far not that big a deal, but as we expand our languages.  I believe it will be an issue

So I'm inferring that you're creating sub-communities for each of your different language types. Looks like there really isn't a way to "force" or direct users into a language specific area though, and now and again you do get mixed language content on a page.

Some organizations choose to segment Jive sub-communities by locale/language (see for example, http://forums.adobe.com/community/international_forums), while others just have a single hierarchy of sub-communities and leave it up to the user to view the Jive user interface in their chosen language preference.  In this latter case, it can be one of the FIGS (French, Italian, German, Spanish) languages, Japanese, or Simplified Chinese.

Hope that helps!
