Hello,
I have seen some sites where the reputation system takes into account some dimension of 'recent time'. Imagine a top users widget for only the 'last 30 days'. This would be different that the way Jive currently ranks users based ontotal points over all time.
My thoughts are -- this would surface recent activity and encourage new users to engage and feel like top contributors (at least in relative terms).
Is this something other see any value in ?
Hey Jacob,
I've actually been working on an "MVP" widget in my spare time that would rank users based on the amount of interest and interaction around the content that they have created. This would have a point decay aspect to it, so new content with lots of interest/interaction would give you a much higher score than content that is 60 days old.
I agree that there is a bit of hole here and we need to do a better job of encouraging new users. It's pretty hard to feel like you've made a splash in the community when you have 10pts and the top users have 10,000pts. When I complete my plugin, I'll send you a link so you can check it out.
In the meantime, I've added a feature request for you to introduce point decay to the TopMembersWidget (CS-9422)
Hi Jackie,
I did complete a first revision of this against 3.0 and had a few engineers review the code. It needs a bit of refactoring to be ready for primetime and I just haven't had much opportunity to work on this outside of work. With that said, however, I'll try to dedicate some cycles to soon and get it completed by the end of the month.
Thanks,
Austen
