I recently discovered this nice web application called RSSBus. Basically it can easily create RSS feeds from a wide variety of sources, including SQL database. We have a CRM system that we have a feed coming from using this system. It works great on every browser and every other system we have used, besides Clearspace. Whenever I try embedding an RSS feed from this system into a clearspace page (using the RSS Subscription in Overview customization) it gives me this error:
"Failed to render this widget. An unexpected error has occured."
I have included a link to our RSSBus test server running an example RSS feed:

Thanks for any help or suggestions. Also if anyone knows of a system like RSSBus to try out let me know.
Hey,
I have found a bug in the RSSSubscriptionWidget related to your issue. It has to do with the way in which it renders the feed in its freemarker template:

A fix will be available for Clearspace 1.9.

Alex
Okay. Alok's uploaded the RSS Macro sample. Take a look and see if that's what you're looking for.
Hi,
Is this macro also intended for use with Clearspace's own internal RSS feeds e.g. http://<community>/community/feeds/tags/<tag_name> ?
While I have no problem feeding and reading external RSS feeds, I get an "Unable to read rss from:" error whenever I attempt to pull in an internal feed.
Cheers,
Martin
hi Martin,
I'm pretty sure the problem is that by default Clearspace (not ClearspaceX) is configured to require Basic Authentication on feeds, so you'll probably need to enter either your username / password in the rss subscription widget (ie: http://yourusername:yourpassword@example.com/clearspace/community/feeds/allcontentyourpassword@example.com/clearspace/community/feeds/allcontent) or a general one (ie: a robot type account that has general access to stuff in your community). I filed a bug around improving the error messaging that the RSS Subscription widget gives you back:

Cheers for the reply, AJ.
I've tried incorporating username/password combinations in the RSS address, all to no avail. I'm wondering if it is because there are certain characters allowed in document titles, and these characters are consequently rejected by anything attempting to read RSS generated with those document titles? Hope this makes sense!
Martin
hey Martin,
I'll be honest, I think I skipped over the part where you said you were trying to use RSS in a macro, so are you using the RSS Macro (there was one floating around at one point, I'm pretty sure it's not here on jivespace, or is it?)? I'm 99% sure that it doesn't support basic authentication.
Cheers,
AJ
