Biography:
Dr. Christensen has been an active researcher in advanced technologies and public-sector foresight initiatives. In his professional work with the Office of Technology Foresight and the Office of the National Science Advisor, he has been able to research advanced technologies, engaging world-class experts in biotechnology, genomics, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, haptics, photonics and S&T convergence. He has also gained currency as an expert in foresight, emerging technologies, and the ethics of advanced technologies. He is a founding member of the Proteus Management Group and of Proteus Canada, which are devoted to analyzing future complex national security challenges within the joint, interagency, intergovernmental and multinational environment. Dr. Christensen is on the Center for Responsible Nanotechnology’s International Working Group on Policy and Implications, and is a founding member of the Foresight Synergy Network. Dr. Christensen has also worked on many technically sophisticated projects as an independent researcher, including resource industry modeling, space technology, dynamical orbital and trajectory optimization and radiation modeling. Dr. Christensen also has an extensive background in statistics, being the author of a new statistical method for correctly characterizing aggregate performance of a stochastic system. His interests in bringing together public sector agencies with private and civil society concerns have been encouraged by his work with different levels of government and third sector agencies. He has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carleton University, with a thesis in Evolutionary Computation.
