Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

Are there any plans to integrate an open source video platform such as Kaltura into Clearspace?

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

I have a similar question, and was hoping there would be a reply here !

I will have a hard time getting management buyin to pay for Jive's video solution, unless I demonstrate that having video is worthwhile.

Having an open source streaming video program, that I can run within I firewall (all the external streaming video sites has are blocked by IT), will allow me to demonstrate the usefulness (over ~ 6 months).  I realize Jive's tool is much more sophisticated that this, but I don't need all that to get started.

Has anyone run an open source streaming video program within their firewall, and did you need to modify the Jive software to let it add videos from that source?

Thanks,

Chris

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

We are using an internal media server and have embedded video player code on the community page in an html widget.  I have expressed to Jive that having video externally hosted, no matter how many bells and whistles, is not an option.  I have asked if their widget could be modified to allow me to put in the internal url to our media server.

The security, extra IT work, and extra money to use their solution makes it useless for internal (since external uses YouTube, not sure what the market is for this).

Thanks for bringing this up, the ability to plug the video module into an alternative backend is filed as CS-15136.

What is the status of this?  I'm looking to do the same thing (bring video hosting internal), as public sites are inappropriate for the type of content I want to serve.

Thanks,

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

When I hear "public" in the sense of video, I think YouTube. While the Jive video service is based on a cloud service, it has security and authentication similar to other cloud-based enterprise applications like Salesforce or WebEx.

Is your concern that the video will be out there for anyone to see (which isn't the case) or that it is outside the firewall at all (which would be the case)?

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

In our case the concern is entirely bandwidth due to geographic constraints - we use other cloud hosted services that aren't bandwidth intensive.

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

My company is currently evaluating Jive SBS for our enterprise and video integration is a very highly demanded feature. Given that we're in New Zealand however, we have heavy restrictions on bandwidth and therefore require an internally hosted video solution. If the Jive Video module was able to use a local store for content it would be an ideal solution for us.

Re: Kaltura Open Source Video Platform Integration

Hi all,

At Kaltura we would love to support and provide assistance or guidance to such project if the a team in the community would be interested in taking this a step further.

Alternatively, we would love to learn about business opportunities and potentially create the Kaltura-ClearSpace integration in-house.
