Polls in Secret Group Keep Expiring on Their Own

I tried to create a poll in one of our secret groups, set the start to "Make Poll Active Now", set the end date to an arbitrary date (tried once by setting it to run a number of days, and once setting a specific date as the end date) and set the Expiry to "Poll never expires or will be expired later". On both occasions the Poll expired when it ended, losing all poll data.

 

Is there a way to access this data?  How do I stop the poll from expiring when we have not set an expiration date?

Hey Andy,

 

At the same exact time these polls ended (closed for voting) they also expired? or was there a delay between the end date and the expiration? I didn't find any open bugs for this issue and I wasn't able to immediately reproduce. Do you remember what the name/description of the poll was? I can look up the ID in the database so that you will be able to get at the results (this has been much improved in 3.0).

I don't know exactly when it expired. The first time I did it I set the poll to end on the Friday of a week I was off (I started it on a Friday and set it for 7 days). When I came back on the Monday, there was no sign of it any longer.

 

The second poll I configured to end at a specific date, rather than just setting the number of days to run for, this Monday just passed (the 11th). When I came in on Monday the poll was gone again.

In both cases I used the 'this poll does not expire, or will be expired later' (not sure that's the right wording). It would be interesting to know what the Jive software does; if I say it ends on the 14th, for example, does it end at 00:00 on the 14th, or some other specific time of the end date?

 

The poll titles were "To lock or not to lock, that is the (Frequently Asked) Question". The second one was just 'Test Poll'

I checked both of these polls on your site and it appears that they were set to expire on the same day that they ended, you can view this here:

This would explain why you are seeing them expire, not sure how that would get set by itself though. Might want to try setting another one up to see if its getting set on its own or something (could be a bug). Thanks.

Hi Todd-

 

It looks like there's a bug here.  I created a poll on Friday with no expiration and an end date of today.  I went to the group today and the poll was gone.  The name of the poll is: Testing: Do you see this poll?.  Can you take a look at this?

Hey Andy,

 

Are you able to reproduce this same error in UAT? I was not able to find any open bugs for this issue yet and this is the first I have heard of it. I wanted to test this but I didn't want to make any changes in production or UAT without you testing first. Thanks!

Hi Todd-

 

I just tried testing this in UAT and had the same issue.  I created a poll in the group Workgroup-DSP and had it end on Monday but not expire.  When I go to this group (http://ez-stage.analog.com/groups/workgroup-dsp), there is no record of this poll other than a note that I created it on the recent activity screen in the group listing (see screen shot).

Thanks Andy, I think I was able to figure out what is going on here. It appears that when the end date is being set it is also using the same data to set the expiration date and this appears to be a bug. I have filed this as CS-13527.

 

As a temporary workaround, I believe that the following works:

 

1. Create the poll with the end date but no expiration date

2. While viewing the poll click "Edit Poll"

3. You will see that the expiration date is set to the end date, go ahead and change this back to whatever you want

4. Save the poll again (it shouldn't expire now).
