Disabling Polls just tells the "Popular Polls" Widget to tell "Polls are not enabled" but does not disable polls?

hi,

we need to switch off polls for internal reasons. I found this thread http://www.jivesoftware.com/jivespace/message/244512#244512 where a problem with the Actions Widget is described, but this does not seem to be the only problem with disabling poll via the system property polls.enabled=false.

1.) the poll overview is accessible (/poll.jspa)

2.) with a link to the poll listing or a link to single poll users can still vote

3.) on a polls page there is still a link to create a new poll

How to disable polls completely?

Doing it via permissions would be great, but that would have to a setting for the root admin. Space admins must not be able to circumvent this.

Doing it via FTL modifications should only be the last resort.

best regards,

Nils

Hello Nils,

I've confirmed all of the points you mention -- settings polls.enabled=false doesn't actually seem to do anything. I've logged it as a bug, ID CS-17190, with slightly elevated priority.

Unfortunately the only way I'm aware of that effectively removes these links would be to set the permissions as you mention below. If you did this then edited the JSP such that options for this permission are removed you could block space-level admins from re-setting the permission; however, if you ever wanted to add polls back in you would have to re-edit the JSP as such.

Please let me know if you have additional thoughts on this!

Cheers,

Brad

Cool. If it's not too much trouble and if you wouldn't mind sharing, it would be nice to hear your solution when you come up with it -- always looking for solutions to these kinds of problems .

Thanks,

Brad
