Problem: It is nice you can attach an image to posts (depending on system settings) but blind/visually disabled users do not get the benefit of that content nor does search pick it up, reducing SEO.
Proposed solution: Add a "description" field to each image upload page. This description would then show as an alt="" text for those images.

This is something we have been thinking about and will likely add in a future release, though I am not certain how often users will enter meaningful descriptions. Opinions?

I think it may depend on how it's presented. Agree that some, maybe even most, won't use it but it would at least present the possibility.

I think it is a good idea. Accessibility for users using screen readers is one very important reason, but it also can be helpful when the user is trying to work with low bandwidth.
