Question about changing the user id field

Hi folks,

Currently we are using an MS ADAM server and importing users form 9 different domains into the one ldap store.  We are using sAMAccountName as the user id field and running into a problem that a few of the companeis have the same user naming practices so we have duplicate user ids which means those users cannot login.

We want to change the user id field to userPrincipalName since that will be userid@company.com and will remove the duplicate issue.  How will this affect the content currently in Jive, what sort of the re-mapping effort will be required?

Thanks

Re: Question about changing the user id field

Hi Craig,

Not sure if there is a really good way to go about doing this as the username is stored across a few different tables.  I am going to check around for more details to see if this is possible.

Re: Question about changing the user id field

Craig,

Here is the details we have on the username throughout our application:

jiveBlog - displayname

jiveUser - username

jiveUserContainer - name

jiveWFCurrentStep - owner

jiveWFHistoryStep - owner

I know that jiveWFCurrentStep holds pending Friend Requests, which causes an issue that the pending friends page will not show the requests if it is not changed.

You would need to update the LDAP query as well,

Re: Question about changing the user id field

Correct,

Everyone would be re-created in the system with the new usernames, but it would probably fail due to the email field being the same.

That actually makes me think - if you did make this change would each user have a username = email?  Cause that would end up being equally bad in the eyes of our application.

As long as everyone has unique username / email you should be good then!
