    New enterprise social network push no problem for veteran player Jive (video)

    Dave Hersh, Jive chief executive officer, says business is seeing a major change in how it operates because of the way social media is moving into corporate offices.

    "What Jive believes is that there is becoming a social layer within the enterprise, a way to connect customers, partners and employees into one integrated conversation," he explains in this building43 interview. The additional competition is "wonderful," says Hersh, because "...it's really fueling the wave this space represents."

SBS 4.0 is Jive's latest version of its enterprise collaboration technology. Jive may be the most threatening competitor to Microsoft Sharepoint. Its platform integrates with Microsoft Office and the iPhone, and provides a social layer that users find compelling.

    Social software maker Jive is jumping in Palo Alto

    The company on Nov. 13 closed a $12 million, Series B round of funding led by previous investor Sequoia Capital. Now it has launched the hiring portion of its aggressive growth strategy, listing 20 open jobs in Palo Alto and looking to hire more than 70 additional people next year. Hersh said at least half of all new hires will be in Palo Alto.

    The platform, based on Jive, is available to all 11,500 employees. As of today 55% of all Swiss Re employees have logged in at least once, and they are seeing a steady increase in creation and viewing of content. There are currently 347 groups created for collaboration on business topics with both global and local themes. The participation is cross-functional and comes from all regions and countries. They had used data from an existing internal user directory, called "Who is", as a starting point and IT had been amongst the first regular users, but eventually they've even got their account managers involved.
